Health and Balance in Babies and Children Through Chiropractic

As parents it is essential that we observe our children to see that they are integrating into their world in an age-appropriate way. Imbalances can be indicated in a variety of ways depending on age. Babies may have difficulty feeding, arch their back, have an uneven head shape, or dislike lying on their stomach. As children grow, warning signs of a body out of balance can include slow recovery from minor illnesses, recurring colds, flus, and allergies, poor balance and coordination, inability to concentrate, agitation, anxiety, oversensitivity to noise, eczema, constipation, hyperactivity, defiant or angry behavior, depression, difficulty sleeping, or sluggishness.

The central nervous system controls every function of the body including breathing, digestion, thought processes, and healing. The messages sent by your brain to your central nervous system can become impaired or blocked by spinal or vertebral subluxations which occur when there are misalignments in the spine. Misalignments of the spine can begin in utero if the pregnant mother’s pelvis is uneven impacting the position of baby in the womb. Chiropractic adjustments throughout pregnancy can help align the pelvis and prepare the woman’s body for birth. The birth process can also cause subluxation in babies, especially with modern medical interventions. As children grow, they experience falls, bumps, and increasingly sports injuries. These physical traumas along with chemical and emotional stressors create imbalance in the body and cause misalignments in the spine.  Misalignments can be corrected by a pediatric certified chiropractor through gentle, specific spinal adjustments. The human body has the amazing capacity to heal itself and when interferences to the central nervous system are removed it can function optimally.
